თუ აქამდე გეგონათ, რომ ქართული ინგლისურენოვანი ჰარდ როკი და გრანჟი Deep Purple-ს და Nirvana-ს ჰიტების მესამეხარისხოვან შესრულებას ვერ სცდება, გირჩევთ Green Mama-ს ეს ალბომი ჩართოთ. მეტსაც გეტყვით, ალბათ ამ თქვენი სტერეოტიპის გადამკიდე, არც კი იეჭვებთ რომ ამ ჯგუფის წევრები შეიძლება თქვენს უბანში ცხოვრობდნენ.
Green Mama ამ ნამუშევარში გვთავაზობს კლასიკური როკის შინაგანი ენერგიის და პოსტ-გრანჟული გარეგანი ფორმის შთამბეჭდავ შერწყმას. ალბომში დაუძალებლადაა შეთავსებული ჰიპერენერგიული როკერები და მელოდიური power ballad-ები. ასეთი მრავალფეროვნება ვოკალურ მოქნილობასაც მოითხოვს, რასაც 2 მომღერალი თავისუფლად უმკლავდება. მომენტებში ხმა მოგვაგონებს რაღაც საშუალოს Axl Rose-სა და Kurt Cobain-ს შორის, მაგრამ უმეტესად ვოკალური ექსპრესია David Coverdale / Glenn Hughes-ის Deep Purple-ს დროინდელ მანერასთანაა ახლოს.
სიმღერები საქმის დიდი ცოდნითაა არანჟირებული: ბალანსი ინსტრუმენტალურ და ვოკალურ პასაჟებს შორის თითქმის იდეალურადაა დაცული, ასე რომ ყველა სიმღერას ეძლევა განვითარების საშუალება. სადაც ენერგიაა საჭირო, იქ გრანჟულად დაჟანგული გიტარები და აგრესიული ვოკალი ქარიშხალს ტეხენ (Most Of All, Isterikus). მელოდიური პასაჟები კი ძირითადად განმეორებად, ლამაზ თემებს მოიცავენ, რომლებსაც ძირითადად არანჟირების ვარიაციები ავითარებენ. ასეთი სიმღერებიდან განსაკუთრებით Maybe It’s და Pieces გამოირჩევა. ასევე, რამდენიმე უფრო მსუბუქი სიმღერა. ამას გარდა, ბევრი შედარებით უფრო მსუბუქი სიმღერა Jimmy Page-სეულ აკუსტიკური გიტარის სტილს იყენებს – განსაკუთრებით აღსანიშნავია ძალიან ლამაზი My Way Home, რომელიც ალბომს ხურავს.
ალბომის გაფართოებულ ვერსიას 3 ბონუს-ტრეკი მოჰყვება, რომელიც უფრო მეტადაა დაფუძნებული კლასიკურ პოსტ-გრანჟზე, აქა-იქ ალტ. როკის ელემენტებით. არც ესენია ცუდი, მაგრამ ალბომის მთავარი ნაწილი გაცილებით უკეთესია.
საბოლოო ჯამში ჩვენს წინაშეა ძალიან სოლიდური და მრავალფეროვანი ალბომი, სადაც კარგი იდეები საკმარისზე მეტადაა, რომ ალბომს თავიდან ბოლომდე სიამოვნებით მოუსმინო. ის გასაკვირად დაღვინებულია სადებიუტო ალბომისთვის – აქ ფაქტობრივად არაა სუსტი წერტილი. გავლენების მიუხედავად, ისინი იმდენად შემოქმედებითადაა ჯგუფის საკუთარ შემოქმედებით ხედვაში გატარებული, რომ ვიღაცის კლონირებაზე აქ საუბარიც ზედმეტია. ეს ალბომი ამერიკაში რომ გამოსულიყო, სტილის სპეციალისტების მიერ ალბომი შეფასდებოდა, როგორც ძალიან კარგი. ჩემგან კი ამ ალბომს 9/10. ასეთი ორგანულ და ჩავარდნების არმქონე ალბომს ჩვენთან ცოტას თუ იპოვი.

If you thought that English-language Georgian hard rock and grunge music can only get as far as doing the third–rate covers of Deep Purple or Nirvana, my advice is to put on this album by Green Mama. I’ll tell you even more: because of those stubborn stereotypes, an average Georgian would never even guess that he/she might be sharing a neighbourhood with the band members.
Here, Green Mama offers us the impressive mix of internal hard rock energy and external post-grunge form. The album’s dynamics flow naturally from the hyperenergetic rockers to melodic power ballads. This diversity requiresmuch local flexibility that is easily accomplished by two lead vocalists. At the moments, vocals are somewhere in-between Axl Rose and Kurt Cobain, but for most of the time, the singing is close to Deep Purple-period David Coverdale / Glenn Hughes manner.
The songs are arranged with much knowledge of the subject. The balance between vocal and instrumental passages is almost ideal, so every song gets its necessary space for development. Where the energy is needed, rusty post-grungy guitars and aggressive vocals summon the hurricane (Most Of All, Isterikus). When it comes to melodic passages, they’re mostly comprised from beautiful, repetitive themes, developed by arrangement variations. Of this kind of songs, Maybe It’s and Pieces are the two that gain the most attention. Other than this, most of the lighter songs make much use of acoustic guitar, delivered in Jimmy Page style. The closing title track is especially worthy to mention because of its beauty and majesty.
The wider version of the album contains three bonus tracks that mainly adhere to post-grunge sensibilities with alt. rock echoes here and there. Not bad, but the proper album material is clearly better.
So, here we have a rock-hard yet diverse album, with the ideas more than enough to make it a very enjoyable listen. It is surprisingly mature for the debut release – there is not a single practically weak point. Despite having many influences, they direct them so creatively through their own artistic vision that cloning anybody is just out of question. If it was released in USA, the connoisseurs of the style would rate it as “excellent”. So, this album gets 9/10 from me. Seriously, you won’t find many Georgian rock albums so uniformly good!
