(Ponti, Kaia, Monatreba, Way To India, Spiritual).

Now I’m gonna present you a band that comes from Batumi, Georgia. This project was created in the middle of the previous decade and had the debut release in 2012, but was overlooked, like much else, by Georgian public. Asea Sool is basically brother-and-sister duet, that call themselves Bek Bekson and Atina Kornelius, respectively. They now operate in Ukraine.

After many years of experiments and sound searching, “Sazamtro FM” presents its worldbeat style full with multicultural influence. Here the place can be found for multiethnic folklore (including Georgian). alternative rock, chanson, experimental music and whatnot. This cocktail comes along in dynamic and interesting form, embellished with Atina’s beautiful and flexible vocals.

The album, with its varied approach might recall French worldbeat pioneers, Lo’jo, although Asea Sool has its own characteristic mixture of ingredients. Sometimes this eclecticism comes in expense of musical focus, but it is compensated by beautiful, melodic songs with light, but non-template-bound arrangements.  The most successful of them put instrumental arrangement in the spotlight and use vocals as mere melodic line (Ponti, Kaia, Monatreba, Way To India, Spiritual).

This is an album with songs that are better off listened alone than in combination, but this is the classical adverse effect of debut albums. From the album’s ideas it is clear that these two musicians have the potential to create something really grand, given more time for refining and adjusting focus. So the album rating is: 7,5/10.

Recommended for all – pay attention to this promising band!
